What Filipinos Abroad Send Home: The Floristella Diaspora Flower Report
Share
Floristella analysed roughly two years of anonymised order data to understand how the Filipino diaspora sends flowers and gifts home. All figures below are relative shares and indices — no individual or absolute sales data is disclosed.
Nearly 1 in 4 Floristella orders is placed from outside the Philippines
Around 24% of all orders are sent by Filipinos and loved ones living abroad — a quiet but enormous segment of Philippine flower demand. These senders pay from overseas and ship to family across the country, and they behave measurably differently from domestic buyers.
Where overseas senders are based
| Country | Share of overseas orders |
|---|---|
| United States | ~36% |
| Australia | ~13% |
| United Kingdom | ~9% |
| Singapore | ~8% |
| Canada | ~7% |
| United Arab Emirates | ~4% |
| New Zealand / Malaysia / others | balance |
The United States alone accounts for more than a third of overseas orders. But the highest spenders are in Asia: senders in Singapore spend about 17% more per order than domestic buyers, and those in Malaysia about 27% more — the affluent regional diaspora consistently chooses premium arrangements.
What the diaspora sends — and how it differs from local buyers
Overseas senders over-index on occasions that bridge distance. They are noticeably more likely to send Mother's Day flowers than domestic buyers (a 6.7% vs 5.2% share of occasions) — unsurprising for children sending to mothers they cannot visit. Romantic flowers run roughly even with local demand.
They send proportionally fewer sympathy arrangements than domestic buyers (≈23% vs ≈32% of occasions) — yet condolence flowers remain among their most-ordered items, because sending sympathy home is often the only way to be present at a wake from abroad. The most-sent arrangements from overseas blend exactly these two motives:
- Round Condolence Flowers and White Condolence Flowers — sympathy sent when you can't be there
- Amalia and Forever Yours — love and milestones across the miles
Where overseas flowers are delivered
Diaspora orders land in the same heartland as domestic demand: Metro Manila first, then Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, Cebu and Bulacan — the home provinces families return to.
